The Minute MRD will be available with either a cartridge TPC damper or with the new Absolute Damping System. Absolute Damping ranges from wide open to fully closed in six distinct clicks, with the four intermediate settings corresponding to varying degrees of platform. The Manitou R7 MRD Absolute fork features either 80 or 100mm of non-adjustable travel. It has a lightweight cartridge Absolute Platform Damper. Its Noble air spring, the zenith of the Manitou line, uses an auto-adjusting negative air spring. The air pressure, rebound, and compression are all adjustable. The stanchions are 30mm in diameter. Theres a semi-open bath lubricating the sliding elements and are sealed in with Evil Genius seals. TPC (TWIN PISTON CHAMBER) DAMPING The original low pressure, high oil volume damping system for bicycles, Manitous patented TPC damper features independent damping pistons: one optimized for rebound, the other for compression, each with independent adjustability. los americanos tampoco lo tienen claro http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=355174 I think the main differnce between SPD and Absolute is that the on the former the platform level is adjusted via air pressure in the spv chamber, while in the latter it is adjusted via a multi-position knob. As I understand, the TPC in lockout is a hard lockout that is like a rigid fork. The absolute will not achieve that degree of lockout, but at max, oil flow is highly restricted.
pero ...Not all TPC systems have lockout. I don't believe that the R7 MRD TPC has lockout. I have seen no reference to it anywhere but I may be wrong.
My Nixon with TPC cartridge has a very similar adjuster on top of the right leg and it definitely does not have lockout. If you take a look at the 2008 Catalogue linked above, there is no mention of lockout under "adjustments". If you look at adjustments for example the S-Type SRL shock, they specify "lockout". So I don't think it has lockout. el catalogo no hace mención al bloqueo... pero ... The TPC-version of the R7 MRD exists in two versions, according to german bike stores - with lockout and with remote lockout.
Anyway, here's a brief comparison of Absolute and TPC damping, courtesy of the Manitou product manager. TPC Speed Sensitive System (Dependent on trail/terrain feedback) The oil flow through the piston ports is metered by two separate shim stacks (compression and rebound) that make the damping rate very linear and highly tunable. Five compression damping positions that allow the rider to adjust the system to terrain and rider input (weight). Absolute Speed/Pressure Sensitive System - The Absolute system starts out being a speed-sensitive system (much like the TPC in the first two adjustment settings), but then it changes to a pressure-sensitive system with the final three adjustment settings. We have designed the system to allow pressure to overcome the speed sensitivity of the system in order to build a platform that will eventually become a lockout with the final adjustment position. We'll have a more technical, quantitative comparison on the website soon. (www.manitoumtb.com) I imagine this post may create as many questions as it answers. We'll do our best to provide all the information you need to decide which fork is best for you.
